What it does
Text Highlighter places a visible box around the current word or line and lets you step through text at your own pace. It includes voice follow mode that listens to you read aloud and advances the highlight automatically, a teleprompter for silent reading, and Tiglish transliteration for Ge'ez script.
Read aloud and the highlight follows your voice in real time. Works with English and Tigrinya. Includes voice commands for hands-free control.
Auto-scrolls text for silent reading. Adjust speed with arrow keys. Pause and resume with spacebar.
Shows Latin pronunciation below Ge'ez text (e.g. ሰላም → selam). Helps readers learning the script.
The highlight glides between positions with adjustable animation speed. Supports outline, underline, and fill styles.
Highlight 1 to 8 lines at once. In voice mode, the highlight slides by one line at a time.
Remembers where you left off. Refresh or close the page — the highlight resumes from your last position.
Type a number to jump directly to a verse or psalm on supported Bible sites.
Built-in support for Google Slides, AbbaSelama, GeezExperience, and BibleGateway. Activate on any other site too.
Supported sites
- Google Slides — edit and presentation mode. Text boxes read individually.
- AbbaSelama.org — prayer texts with content change detection, psalm jump by number.
- GeezExperience.com — Tigrinya/English Bible with two-column support, verse jump by number.
- BibleGateway.com — chapter navigation and verse jump by number or voice.
- Any website — toggle ON from the popup or press Option+H (Mac) / Alt+H (Windows).
Voice follow mode
Press V to start voice follow. A green mic indicator appears in the top-right corner showing ትግ (Tigrinya) or EN (English). Read aloud and the highlight advances automatically.
- On Ge'ez sites (AbbaSelama, GeezExperience), uses Amharic speech recognition — the closest Chrome-supported language to Tigrinya.
- Press T to toggle between Tigrinya and English recognition without stopping.
- If the algorithm loses track, it automatically re-syncs or advances after a brief delay.
Voice commands
While voice follow is active, say "Ok reader" (or "Hey reader") followed by a command:
| Say this | What it does |
|---|---|
| Navigation | |
| "Ok reader, next" | Advance to next group |
| "Ok reader, back" | Go to previous group |
| "Ok reader, skip 3 lines" | Jump forward by N lines |
| "Ok reader, skip up 2 lines" | Jump backward by N lines |
| "Ok reader, restart" | Jump back to the first word |
| "Ok reader, stop" | Turn off voice follow |
| Bible Sites | |
| "Verse 5" | Jump to verse 5 (GeezExperience, BibleGateway) |
| "Psalm 23" | Jump to Psalm 23 (AbbaSelama) |
| "Chapter 3" | Navigate to chapter 3 (BibleGateway) |
| Settings | |
| "Ok reader, faster" | Speed up highlight animation |
| "Ok reader, slower" | Slow down highlight animation |
| "Ok reader, scroll faster" | Speed up auto-scroll |
| "Ok reader, scroll slower" | Slow down auto-scroll |
| "Ok reader, 3 lines" | Set highlight to 3 lines (1–8) |
| "Ok reader, color blue" | Change highlight color |
| "Ok reader, switch to English" | Switch recognition language |
| "Ok reader, switch to Amharic" | Switch recognition language |
Verse, psalm, and chapter commands work without the wake phrase — just say "verse 5" directly. All other commands need "Ok reader" first.
